Dr. William Benson grew up in Wheeling and is a proud graduate of the West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Ophthalmology, where he completed his residency in 1986. He received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and completed two cornea fellowships at the University of Texas in Houston. Dr. Benson has been on the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University since 1992, where he was named an Eminent Scholar and the Ragnit & Walter J. Geeraets Chairman of the department for 18 years. He is currently a tenured Professor and has been named a Richmond "Top Doctor" by Richmond Magazine every year since 1994, as well as a "Virginia Top Doctor" by Virginia Business Magazine and Castle Connolly. Dr. Benson has two children ages 9 and 18 with his wife Amanda and has driven to Alaska and back 5 times.
