The effectiveness of annual eye examinations in diabetic children is unclear. We sought to determine the prevalence and onset of ocular pathology in children with diabetes mellitus (DM), identify risk factors for ocular disease, and recommend a screening regimen for asymptomatic children.

Medical training with manikin-based simulation technology enables students to fine-tune their skills without compromising the safety of patients.1 An Ophthalmic Anesthesia Simulation System (OASiS; Fig 1) has been developed for learning, practicing, and improving the skills for administering ophthalmic regional blocks.2,3 The OASiS consists of a manikin having anatomically accurate orbital and ocular structures with an integrated sensing system to provide quantitative and qualitative feedback to the trainee on the block performed.
