Dr. Ian Conner is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He serves as Chief of the UPMC Glaucoma and Cataract Service and Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship program. A distinguished alumnus of West Virginia University (WVU), Dr. Conner earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Summa Cum Laude, in 1998 from the WVU College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. He subsequently obtained his MD/PhD (with a PhD in Anatomy and Neurobiology) from WVU’s School of Medicine in 2007.
Dr. Conner completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (2007–2008), followed by a residency in Ophthalmology at the same institution (2008–2011). He pursued a Glaucoma Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2011–2012.
As a core teaching faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Conner has been recognized with numerous teaching awards from both medical students and residents. He is passionate about hands-on teaching in the clinic, wet lab, and operating room, and regularly leads teaching labs for residents at national conferences.
Dr. Conner is an active member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Board of Ophthalmology, the Chandler Grant Glaucoma Society, the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He also serves on the board of the Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society.
A respected contributor to ophthalmology literature, Dr. Conner co-authored Chandler and Grant’s Glaucoma, 6th Edition (Slack, 2018), and Yanoff and Duker’s Ophthalmology, 5th Edition (Saunders, 2018). He has presented over 50 conference proceedings, published 18 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and has been a featured speaker at numerous regional, state, and national ophthalmology conferences.
