Dr. Esen K. Akpek is the founder and Director of the Ocular Surface Disease Clinic and a practicing physician at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in inflammatory diseases of the cornea and conjunctiva, as well as in high-risk corneal transplantation. Dr. Akpek has published 240 research papers and holds an H-index of 58, reflecting her substantial contributions to the field.
In addition to her work at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Akpek is the founder and president of KAI, president of FOIS, and a founding member and Associate Director of the Jerome L. Green Sjogren’s Center at Johns Hopkins. She has been consistently ranked among the top 100 ophthalmologists by Newsweek since 2020. Dr. Akpek also serves on the editorial boards of six scientific journals and holds three patents related to ophthalmic devices.
