Dr. Sobel is a board-certified ophthalmologist originally from Florida. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, followed by her medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at the renowned Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia, then pursued a two-year fellowship in oculoplastics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Before joining the Vanderbilt Eye Institute, Dr. Sobel served as the director of the Division of Oculoplastics and Orbital Surgery at Boston Medical Center/Boston University, where she was also an assistant professor, teaching both medical students and residents.
In addition to her clinical and educational roles, Dr. Sobel has been a medical columnist for The Philadelphia Inquirer and U.S. News & World Report. She has contributed to NPR and the New England Journal of Medicine, and remains an active contributor to scientific publications. As a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, she holds a leadership role in the society’s education section. Recognized as an award-winning educator, Dr. Sobel is dedicated to advancing both clinical practice and the education of future ophthalmologists.
